Dan Spiers, Co-Founder and Managing Partner
As the Co-Founder and Managing Partner at 2020, Dan supports clients with the management and execution of sell- and buy-side M&A transactions. In the last 13 years, Dan has advised over 100 environmental and AEC companies across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia, working directly with Founder/owners, buyers, and private equity investors. This includes advising on M&A sales strategy, financial analysis and valuation opinions, identification of buyers and sellers, preparation of M&A marketing materials, outreach to buyers or sellers, negotiation of offers, due diligence, leading to a successful close. Dan has also developed an extensive AEC industry network with contacts to more than 1000 environmental and engineering firms and private equity owners across the globe. Dan is based in Seattle and oversees 2020’s Pacific Northwest Operations.
Dan is also a co-host and presenter at the Environmental Business Journal Environmental Industry Summit conferences, held each year in San Diego, Seattle, Boston and Houston.
Earlier in his career, Dan held positions with some of the largest Public Relations firms in the world. Based in Washington D.C., Dan served as the Senior Account Executive with Powell Tate|Weber Shandwick where he led PR campaigns for Waste Management, Federal Reserve Bank and the European Union. He later joined Mediascape Global in Sydney Australia as Environmental Communications Leader and led Mediascape's expansion into the United States.
Dan holds a Masters Degree in International Law/International Relations from the University of New South Wales, Australia with an emphasis on Environmental Law and Policy. Following his M.S. he earned a Certificate in Finance and M&A from University of California Berkeley. Dan received his B.A in Politics and International Relations from University of California, Santa Cruz and also attended the London School of Economics Marketing Management Program.
Dan is based in Issaquah (Seattle) WA, lives with his wife and twin daughters, enjoys golf, marathon running, and international travel.
